It’s that time of year when Queensland and NSW go head to head, not just in the State of Origin, but in the Pie of Origin. The annual Pie of Origin contest will once again see Queensland-based Beefy’s take on NSW’s Glenorie Bakery to out-bake and out-sell each other during the State of Origin series, with Beefy’s aim being to score big for Queensland’s sick kids.

“One dollar from every Beefy’s Big Queenslander Pie sold during the State of Origin series will be donated to Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital,” says Beefy’s Mark Hobbs.

“Last year we raised $17,000. This year we hope to raise well over $20,000, with the help of all Queenslanders.”

Origin legend Kerrod Walters & Beefy’s Pies Mark Hobbs

Mark Hobbs’ son has personally benefited from the loving medical care provided by the intensive care unit, the specialists and the nurses at the children’s hospital. This is one way the Hobbs family and all Queenslanders can give back.

Funds raised by Glenorie Bakery will go to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. This year, raising funds for such a good cause is a personal quest for Rob Pirina of Glenorie Bakery, having recently lost his nephew, Charlie, who passed away from a rare degenerative disorder. The Children’s Hospital at Westmead played a big part in giving Charlie and his family comfort and support.

Former State of Origin Great Kerrod Walters is looking for a Queensland win. “Beefy’s have out-baked and out-sold Glenorie Bakery to win the Pie of Origin two years running; I’d like to see Beefy’s make it a hat trick,” says Kerrod. “So come on, Queensland! Get in store and get yourself a Beefy’s Big Queenslander Pie.

“More importantly though, every time you buy a Beefy’s Big Queenslander Pie during the State of Origin series, you not only score a try for Queensland against NSW in the Pie of Origin, you score a try for sick kids by raising money for Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

“So when you raise your hand in support of a Mighty Maroon win on State of Origin night, make sure it’s holding a Beefy’s Big Queenslander Pie. I know mine will be. You won’t just be supporting Beefy’s in their quest to bring home the Pie of Origin title, you’ll be supporting Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Hospital, the kids and their families. QUEENSLANDER!”

Beefy’s Big Queenslander Pie is available from all Beefy’s Queensland locations – Aussie World, Buderim, Cannon Hill, Glasshouse Mountains, Gympie, Mango Hill, Ningi, North Lakes and Maroochydore.
